My school reading room essay

Besides the school library, we have a reading-room in our school. It is a spacious, well-lit and airy room. It is suitably furnished with tables, chairs and stands. The reading-room remains open from 7 a.m. to 11.30 a.m. and from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Mr. Ramachandran, a retired teacher, is in charge of the reading-room.

About a hundred students take benefit of the reading-room every day. ‘The Times of India’ and ‘The Indian Express’ are the dailies received in the reading-room. Besides these papers, four monthlies and two weeklies are regularly received there. ‘Science Today’, ‘India Today’, ‘The Sports Weekly’ and ‘The Illustrated Weekly of India’ are some of them. The newspapers are placed on stands and also on tables. The monthlies and weeklies are also placed on tables.

Students stand at the stands or sit at the tables and read. The reading-room is used by the students to read newspapers and magazines and weeklies. They also read and study books borrowed from the school library. Some students sit in the reading-room and do their homework there. Some teachers, too, visit the reading-room regularly.

There is perfect silence in the reading-room. Students are busy reading, writing or taking notes. The reading-room in our school is a great blessing to the students who don’t have reading facilities at home. They read newspapers and magazines and add to their general knowledge. The reading-room facility with suitable reading material develops the reading habit in students.
