My school library essay

There is a very good library in our school. It is quite a big and well-equipped library. It has about twelve thousand books. More than half the numbers of these books are in Marathi and the rest in English and Hindi.

The books are arranged in big cupboards language wise as well as subject wise. They are listed in separate registers. There are two main sections: the teachers’ section and the students’ section. In the teachers’ section there are very useful reference books like encyclopedias, dictionaries and books on grammar as well as literature. This section is used by the teachers.

The books in the students’ section are issued to us regularly. Different days of the week are allotted to students of different standards to collect books. For example, Monday is fixed for the students of the Tenth standard, Tuesday for the students of the Ninth standard and so on.

There is a librarian in charge of the library and he does the work of issuing books. He is helped by an assistant librarian and a peon. Although reading library books is not compulsory, many students take advantage of the library. I read at least two books every month. Our teachers give us valuable guidance. On their advice, many students draw their own notes and jot down important points in their notebooks as they read the library books.

Thus, we make the best use of the library. Reading helps us to increase our general knowledge. It improves our writing. We acquire the healthy habit of reading which, to my mind, is the greatest blessing of our library.
